Description:

901: Welcome to Spindletop Hill, birthplace of the modern oil industry. The first oil deposits have just been discovered, and adventurers flock to Texas to seek their fortune. But the reserves are limited. Who will strategically build their drilling rigs in the best locations and extract the black gold in the most profitable order?

In this development game for 2-4 players, which lasts only 20 minutes in the basic version, players attempt to secure discovered oil in the form of oil stones for themselves as points. Using their oil companies, players first place drilling rigs and trucks in claims they roll and attempt to find oil near them. In the second phase, they face the dilemma of deciding which of the discovered oil wells to exploit before their opponents do.

While the game board side of the basic game appeals to the casual player and is particularly suitable for a 2-player game, the back side allows for a more complex game for the frequent player or for casual players who want to make the basic game more diverse by adding additional game pieces and board components such as locomotives, railway tracks and settlements.

Black Gold emerged as the winner of a game designer competition and is set against the historical backdrop of Spindletop Hill, described in detail in the rulebook, where many of the active oil companies in Texas had their roots at the beginning of the 20th century.
