The rules:

Each player has three pieces that must reach the city in the center of the board. These pieces can get stuck in quicksand and must then be rescued by other players. Those rescued move on to the next oasis, where they must recover.

You can increase your chances of winning by getting a lift: If one piece jumps onto another, you'll be lifted along for free. You just have to get off in time, otherwise you'll be stuck in an oasis.

Ideal as a portable game, because the fabric game board is foldable and the game pieces have their own "hiding place" there.
